Child Development Advisor

My name is Trena McKinnon and I am the Child Development Advisor for Coopers Crossing School.

I really enjoy getting to know all of the students as I visit classrooms, go out for recess, run clubs, and plan school-wide events.

As a CDA, it is important to me that all students learn and acquire character and leadership skills, problem-solving and resiliency skills, friendship and social skills, and how to take care of themselves physically, socially and emotionally.

Some of the programs and supports that I provide include Attendance Innovation Project, Spark for Learning, Breakfast Program, Comprehensive School Health, Bully Awareness and interventions, Conflict resolution, Fun Friends/Friends for Life, Mind-Up, Building Mental Wellness,  Zones of Regulation, Love and Logic, Social Thinking, Grade 3-5 Leadership, Student-led clubs, Character education, and Self-esteem building.

Kids spend a lot of time at school and I believe that it should be a safe and comfortable place for them. If they are feeling worried or stressed for any reason at school, there is always a solution and I am available to help by meeting and making a plan with the student. My door is always open to students, staff, and parents to discuss concerns or celebrate successes.

My availability is 7:30 - 3:30  Monday - Thursdays.  I can be reached by phone (403-945-4137) or email: tmckinnon@rockyview.ab.ca
