Welcome from Principal

August 27, 2021

Dear Cooper’s Crossing Families,

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the final days of summer break. My name is Diana Logan and I am thrilled to be the new principal of Cooper’s! Mr. Hennig and staff have worked tirelessly the past 5 years to establish a vibrant, caring, and engaging school community in this beautiful neighbourhood. I look forward to leading the learning community in the years to come and am excited to build relationships with the students, staff, parents, and community partners. Our school goals of active care, purposeful instruction, and being difference makers are admirable guiding principles that will continue to direct our work and support our students into the future. I can hardly wait to meet Cooper’s students!

Staff return to school next week and the office is already open for business. Teachers are busy preparing classrooms and we will be organizing and participating in professional learning in the time leading up to the first days of school on Tuesday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 8.

As you learned last spring, we will have a two-day staggered entry to allow for smaller class sizes and a smooth transition back to school for the students. You should have received an email in late June from Mr. Hennig explaining which homeroom class your child will be in and whether Tuesday or Wednesday will be your child’s first staggered entry day.

Tuesday, September 7 – half of each class will be at school all day
Wednesday, September 8 – the other half of each class will be at school all day
Thursday, September 9 – first school day for all students

If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s staggered entry time, please contact Mrs. Derksen in the front office.

New Bell Times – We have modified the bell times communicated with you in June in order to manage our required number of instructional minutes and to accommodate our staggered entry days. Thank-you for your understanding and flexibility on this.

Please note the start and end times for Grades 1-5 are now:

8:00 a.m. - 8:10 a.m.               Relaxed entry to assigned doors
8:10 a.m. Classes begin
11:05 a.m. -12:05 p.m.           Overlapping lunch hour and recess
2:50 p.m. End of day bell (Fridays dismissal is at 1:00 p.m.)

Kindergarten start and end times are now:
Morning K class:                     8:10 a.m. -  11:05 a.m.
Afternoon K class:                   11:55 a.m. - 2:50 p.m.
Alternating Fridays:                  8:10 a.m. -  11:05 a.m.

We will continue to have weekly Friday Community Updates; however, I may also send some information via email, as I am doing today. Please ensure you have not blocked nor put this email address into your junk mail.

Parents and staff learned about Rocky View Schools’ 2021/22 Return to School Operational Plan yesterday. I can understand there may be strong feelings regarding our return to school and keeping all students, staff, and families safe, while also resuming practices to support engaging learning environments that are so vital to help children flourish. If you have questions regarding the plan, resources, or information, please refer to Rocky View's website. Thank-you for your cooperation with the plans, protocols, and health measures in place. We will continue to ensure the safety of students and staff is paramount.

You can look forward to communication from your child’s teacher later next week, including a virtual tour of the school and classroom as we will not be having an open house at this time. Also, please find attached an updated map of map of the school with your child’s designated entry door.

We are all looking forward to a new school year with renewed energy and enthusiasm and eagerly await the arrival of your children on September 7 and 8. Many great things are to come this year as we thrive and grow as a learning community.

Thank-you, in advance, for your support and contributions to this outstanding school community.

Kind Regards,

Diana Logan
