Christiana van Ysselsteyn

Hello parents!  I feel that the well-being of each student is the most important element in our classroom.  In 4V, we cover the required curriculum in the most creative ways that we can, but we also spend time working on additional skills that will lead to enhanced well-being.  We utilize mindfulness on a regular basis, as it is proven to increase one's sense of well-being, and correlations such as improved academic performance have also been observed with regular mindfulness practice.  In my class, we also take the time to break down skills for success in life.  Some of the areas that we explore include:  dealing with challenges, making a difference in the world, following your heart, believing in yourself, building resiliency, developing a growth mindset, understanding that you are not what you have, putting in effort, being persistent, becoming lifelong learners, being grateful, learning from failure, being positive, and much more.  I believe that if we can offer these skills in a manner that kids can relate to, they will have a solid foundation to take on whatever the future holds.

If you would like more information about me and my class, please visit the "about" page on our class blog at http://schoolblogs.rockyview.ab.ca/cvanysselsteyn/.  It is password protected, so only 4V parents will be able to access this page.  I truly love kids, and it is my pleasure to be able to spend each day with your amazing children.  If you have any questions for me, please do not hesitate to give me a call at 403-945-4137, or e-mail me at cvanysselsteyn@rockyview.ab.ca.  Here's to a great school year! :)
